Ruck and Roll: Giltinis show their colors
The LA Giltinis may be united in representing Los Angeles in rugby but the fun and games has begun with allegiances uncovered for myriad pro teams in other sports.
Pull players together from eight countries and what did you expect.
Utility back Cristian Rodriguez was born and raised in Hawaiian Gardens, California so he’s LA all the way, hence the Dodgers’ colours for the #JerseyDay photo this week.
Halfback Harrison Goddard’s first snapback was a Portland Trail Blazers cap. He’s a CJ McCollum fan for his hot three-point shot but turned up in a retro Seattle Supersonics singlet.
Prop Blake Rogers popped in five straight jump shots from range when he saw the basketball hoop at the club’s El Segundo training facility. You don’t believe us, check out our Twitter & Instagram feeds @Giltinis for the vision.

He’s a northern California boy and a Sacramento Kings fan. He’s had his phases as a San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies baseball fan and is confident enough to say he’s “not wearing a Dodgers cap any time soon.”
Aussie Luke Burton wore a No.24 Kobe Bryant Lakers jersey.
Luke Carty is a fan waiting to find an NBA or NFL team. He’s passionate because he’s wearing the green retro Republic of Ireland Football Association jersey he packed for LA when he flew out of Dublin.
Room-mate Lindsey Stevens has his allegiances sorted. He follows the Denver Broncos (NFL), the New Jersey Devils (NHL) and the Texas Longhorns in College Football.
Matt Giteau says he’s still working out his teams so we have to dig a bit deeper to find out why he’s suddenly wearing a vintage No.85 Chad Johnson jersey from the wide receiver’s days with the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL.
Being away from Ireland’s home comforts is hard even if you’ve traded it in for an LA lifestyle just four-minutes walk from the beach.
A “Paddy Box” of treats from Ireland landed for five-eighth Luke Carty from his mum Susan.
A box of Barry’s Tea, bags of Tayto Crisps and a GAA ball used in Gaelic Football were well received.
Top try-scorers: 3: Harrison Goddard, Angus Cottrell; 2: DTH van der Merwe, Adam Ashley Cooper.
Leading running metres: 180 (20 ball-carries) Billy Meakes; 162 (20) Glenn Bryce; 136 (17) Adam Ashley-Cooper; 96 (7) DTH van der Merwe.
DID YOU KNOW?
Midfield back Luke Burton is an avid surfer. A former San Diego Legion player, the Australian had three surfboards waiting at a friend’s place in California for his return to the beaches of the west coast.
Billy Meakes – Centre (fractured cheekbone)
Sione Tuihalamaka – Prop (tricep)
JP Smith – Prop (knee)
Luke Carty – Five-eighth (hamstring)
Luca Tani – Lock (knee)
Marco Fepulea’i – Prop (knee)
Jeff Peleseuma – Five-eighth (foot)
