Angus Cottrell

Australian backrower Angus Cottrell has rugby in his blood. Cottrell’s grandfather Nev captained the Wallabies in the 1950s and played for Queensland. The younger Cottrell has carved out a reputation as a tough, abrasive backrower with an incredible work ethic. Born and raised in Brisbane, attending rugby nursery Brisbane Boys’ College, Cottrell was given his first Super Rugby chance on the other side of the country, with the Western Force.

Cottrell made his debut for the Force in 2012 against the Brumbies in Canberra. The Queenslander played six seasons with the WA side but his final year, 2017, was soured by injury. Cottrell joined the Melbourne Rebels a year later, along with a host of his Force teammates, and established himself as one of the more consistent Australian players.

Cottrell was called into the Wallabies squad during the 2018 Rugby Championship but an injury prevented him from a Test call-up.
